Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has engaged Cochin Shipyard in India to construct eight harbour tugs, scheduled for delivery between December 2026 and May 2028. These tugs are intended to enhance the efficiency and safety of vessel operations in Indian ports. This order builds on APSEZ’s previous contracts with Cochin Shipyard for the construction of two Azimuthing Stern Drive (ASD) tugs, both of which were delivered ahead of schedule and put into service at Paradeep Port and New Mangalore Port.
In addition to these two tugs, construction is currently underway for three more ASD tugs for APSEZ, bringing the total number of tugs on order at the shipyard to 13. These tugs are vital for supporting the port operations of APSEZ and ensuring the smooth and safe navigation of vessels in Indian waters. The collaboration between APSEZ and Cochin Shipyard highlights the commitment to investing in maritime infrastructure and technology to enhance the capabilities of Indian ports.
The order for eight harbour tugs signifies a significant investment by APSEZ in improving port operations and maritime safety in India. By partnering with Cochin Shipyard, APSEZ is demonstrating a strategic focus on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of vessel operations in Indian ports. This initiative aligns with APSEZ’s goal of becoming a leader in the maritime industry and underscores its commitment to innovation and excellence in port management and logistics.
