Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has secured a Letter of Award from Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL) to construct a 10.14-km offshore breakwater at the new Vadhvan Port in Dahanu, Maharashtra. Valued at ₹5,301 crore (excluding GST), this marks Afcons’ largest marine infrastructure contract and a significant step forward for India’s largest planned public port.
The EPC contract, part of Package 1A (Offshore Breakwater), will create the world’s second-longest breakwater and the longest for an Indian port project upon completion. The Vadhvan Port project, estimated at ₹76,220 crore, aims to handle 23.2 million TEUs when fully operational and is primarily managed by VPPL, which is majority-owned by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).
Afcons emerged as the lowest bidder with its ₹5,301 crore proposal, closely matching VPPL’s technical team’s estimate of ₹5,111 crore. This win highlights Afcons’ expertise in marine infrastructure and reinforces its position as the flagship engineering and construction firm of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. The contract signifies the commencement of construction on essential structures for Vadhvan Port.
