JSW Infrastructure Limited has secured a Letter of Award from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for the integrated development of the Outer Container Terminal at Kolkata Dock System. This project, which includes two berths at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD), was awarded through a competitive bidding process under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) framework within a 30-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement. It aims to enhance container handling capacity, improve operational efficiency, and address rising trade volumes.

The development will occur in two phases, with a projected capacity of around 0.93 million TEUs. This builds upon the Company’s previous award for reconstructing Berth 8 and mechanizing Berths 7 and 8 at NSD, which is expected to add 0.45 million TEUs. Upon completion, the combined container handling capacity at the Kolkata Dock System is estimated to reach approximately 1.4 million TEUs.

This latest achievement consolidates JSW’s strategic role in India’s port privatization and emphasizes its commitment to diversifying into the container segment. With strong demand from the Kolkata metropolitan region, the projects will enhance berth productivity and vessel turnaround times, ultimately increasing the Company’s overall capacity to about 1.8 million TEUs across geographies.
