NIMASA Teams Up with Gambia to Advance Maritime Digital Solutions

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reiterated its dedication to enhancing seafarers’ documentation and advancing maritime digitalization. This commitment was emphasized by Edward Osagie, Assistant Director and Head of Public Relations at NIMASA, during a statement made on Wednesday in Lagos. The announcement coincided with a four-day study visit from officials of the Gambia Maritime Administration (GMA), which took place from June 8 to June 11.

Osagie noted that the visit highlighted the importance of regional collaboration aimed at fostering efficient and globally compliant seafarer certification systems. Officials from both NIMASA and GMA engaged in discussions to review procedures and exchange operational experiences across various maritime administration units. Dayo Mobereola, NIMASA’s Director-General, represented by Executive Director Fatai Adeyemi, expressed that such interactions strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and The Gambia.

Mobereola emphasized that these engagements facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity development in Africa’s maritime sector. He mentioned that NIMASA showcased its advancements in digitalizing seafarers’ documentation and certification processes, including systems for record management and medical certification. Falu Sey, the GMA’s Manager of Ship Registry and Seafarers Affairs, highlighted the practical insights gained from the sessions, which are expected to bolster The Gambia’s maritime administration upon their return. The program concluded with the signing of records, marking a significant step in ongoing regional cooperation.
