Filipino Seafarers to Gain Zero-Emission Skills at UMTC’s New Green Energy Center

The United Marine Training Center (UMTC) in Manila, Philippines, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 17 to initiate the construction of its innovative Green Energy Center. This facility aims to equip Filipino seafarers with the necessary skills for the maritime industry’s shift towards alternative fuels and zero-emission vessels. The event was led by UMTC President Antonio Galvez, alongside key figures from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and international partners, highlighting the center’s importance in addressing the global need for specialized training as the industry evolves.

The Green Energy Center will serve as a hub for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among government agencies, training institutions, and technology providers. President Galvez emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere construction; it focuses on fostering competence, safety, and sustainability. By engaging in practical exercises, Filipino seafarers will gain the confidence to operate new technologies effectively, ensuring safety and environmental protection.
