Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has secured a contract to provide cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for two very large ethane carriers (VLEC) currently under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). These vessels are being built for a Malaysian shipowner, with the order finalized in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Wärtsilä’s responsibilities encompass the engineering of both the cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems, along with the provision of essential equipment, instrumentation, and an integrated cargo control system. The company emphasizes that its systems are critical to the vessel design, ensuring safe and efficient cargo operations.

Harald Øverland, Sales Manager at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, noted that this contract underscores the company’s leading position in the gas carrier market. He highlighted the importance of safety and efficiency in cargo handling, which is supported by Wärtsilä’s extensive experience and in-house expertise.

The delivery of the equipment to the shipyard is scheduled for March 2027, marking a significant step in the development of these advanced vessels.
