The port of Mormugao has generated Rs. 4.82 crore from cruise tourism under the Cruise Bharat Mission (CBM), as reported to Parliament. From October 2024 to June 2025, the port welcomed 38 cruise ships and served 67,594 passengers, according to Rajya Sabha member Sadanand Tanavade.
Launched on September 30, 2024, the CBM is a key initiative by the Indian government aimed at transforming the country’s cruise tourism landscape. It establishes an interministerial framework to streamline guidelines and operations, enhancing coordination among customs, immigration, security forces, state tourism departments, and local police.
A primary goal of the CBM is to create approximately 400,000 jobs by 2029, fostering growth in tourism, hospitality, and coastal entrepreneurship. Mormugao Port’s achievements highlight the significant potential of cruise tourism in India, along with its capacity to drive economic growth and job creation.
The Mormugao port’s success in earning Rs. 4.82 crore from cruise traffic within the first nine months underscores its emerging role in shaping India’s cruise tourism sector, as highlighted by Maritime Gateway, a leading news portal in South Asia.
