DP World Cochin achieved an impressive growth rate of 17% last year at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), handling a record-breaking 840,564 TEU. With 657 vessel calls, the terminal emerged as one of the busiest in South and East India. The introduction of new ship-to-shore container gantry cranes and e-RTGs, along with an expansion of yard space, has increased the terminal’s capacity to around 1.4 million TEU annually.
Furthermore, DP World Cochin has focused on sustainability by electrifying all yard equipment to reduce the terminal’s carbon footprint. The company’s efforts align with its commitment to environmentally friendly operations. In addition, DP World recently launched the Cochin Economic Zone, spanning 75,000ft2 and situated alongside the DP World Cochin terminal. This economic zone marks India’s first within a major port, aiming to enhance Cochin’s status as a vital trade gateway.
The exceptional performance of DP World Cochin and the ICTT is highlighted by these developments, demonstrating the terminal’s growth and commitment to sustainability. These initiatives not only boost the terminal’s efficiency and capacity but also enhance Cochin’s standing as a key player in the maritime trade industry. The record-breaking accomplishments of DP World Cochin set a strong foundation for future success in the region.
