Modi Voices Concerns About Indian Seafarers Stuck in Gulf Crisis

In a recent Lok Sabha address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the urgent need for the safe return of Indian seafarers stranded in the Gulf due to the ongoing West Asia crisis. He noted the significant number of Indian nationals employed on commercial vessels in the region.

Families of two missing seafarers, Fadusha Farhan and Jerin Joseph, have reached out to government officials for assistance after losing contact with them amid the escalating conflict. Fadusha’s mother, Rehnath, expressed hope that the Indian government would coordinate with Iranian authorities to locate her son and his friend, Jerin, who last communicated with his family on February 27.

As of March 12, the Ministry of Ports reported that 778 Indian seafarers are currently stranded across 28 ships in the Persian Gulf due to conflicts near the Strait of Hormuz. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, special secretary in the ministry, indicated that 677 seafarers are on the western side, with the remaining 101 on the eastern side. The situation remains critical, highlighting the need for prompt intervention from the Indian government.
