The containership ONE Henry Hudson has returned to its berth at the Port of Los Angeles after a successful firefighting effort that contained a cargo fire that erupted while the ship was moored last Friday. Under the guidance of a Unified Command, which includes the U.S. Coast Guard and Port of Los Angeles Police Department, crews are now preparing to safely offload the cargo as well as water collected during the firefighting operations.

The fire broke out in difficult-to-access lower-deck compartments, leading to the swift evacuation of the 23 crew members without any reported injuries. The response involved nearly 200 firefighters from Los Angeles City, along with support from Long Beach Fire Department, the Coast Guard, and Cal OES. A mid-ship explosion on Friday caused a temporary power loss, forcing crews to fight the fire from the pier. The Unified Command subsequently moved the vessel offshore to ensure safety and facilitate containment efforts.

As operations continue, the Coast Guard and Port Police are monitoring air quality, ensuring it remains below state and federal action levels. Once the vessel was docked, the firefighting water will be removed for treatment. The incident has temporarily affected nearby container terminals and state routes, but regular port operations have since resumed. The Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the fire’s cause.
