CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard delivered the “GAS BEGONIA” on August 18, marking the eighth unit in a series of 99,000-cubic-meter Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) for Southwest Maritime. The vessel was officially named on June 23, prior to its handover.
The “GAS BEGONIA” is notable for being the largest VLEC in the world by cargo capacity, developed using Jiangnan Shipyard’s proprietary Type B cargo containment system, BrillianceE®. Its technical specifications have been recognized as internationally leading, showcasing advanced engineering.
Measuring 230 meters in length, this vessel is designed to transport various liquefied industrial and energy gases, including ethane, ethylene, and LPG. It is particularly optimized for long-distance ethane transportation in the U.S. and is compatible with major LPG terminals globally. The vessel’s design features low fuel consumption, a minimal boil-off rate, and reduced maintenance costs, providing significant economic advantages.
The construction of the “GAS BEGONIA” resulted from a collaborative effort between Jiangnan Shipyard, Southwest Maritime, and ABS. The project team ensured effective communication and coordination with both the shipowner and classification society, resulting in streamlined compliance and a delivery that was 140 days ahead of schedule.
