Oman has confirmed the evacuation of 16 crew members from the Saudi-owned tanker Sidr, which was reportedly attacked by Iran. This information was shared via a statement from Oman’s Maritime Security Centre on the social media platform X.
The Sidr was among two supertankers transporting Saudi oil that were struck while navigating the Strait of Hormuz last Monday. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding maritime security in the region.
In a subsequent statement, Saudi Arabia revealed that the attack on the Sidr, owned by the national shipping company Bahri, resulted in the deaths of two Filipino seafarers. This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by maritime crews in volatile waters.
The tanker had a total of 25 crew members on board at the time of the attack. As of now, the status of the seven crew members who remain unaccounted for is still unclear, adding to the urgency of the situation as authorities continue their search and rescue efforts.
