Chowgule and Company’s Shipbuilding Division has entered into a contract with Green Maritime Infrastructure (GMI) to construct two hydrogen-powered cargo vessels at its Goa shipyard, following an agreement finalized at the SMM Hamburg 2026 maritime event in Germany. Each vessel will have a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 3,000 and will utilize hydrogen fuel-cell technology, aligning with GMI’s commitment to low-carbon coastal shipping.
The partnership marks a significant advancement in sustainable maritime practices, with Chowgule Shipyard emphasizing the vessels’ role in promoting alternative fuel technologies in place of traditional propulsion systems. The shipyard anticipates that the project will contribute to a larger trend toward hydrogen-based solutions in commercial shipbuilding.
