On May 12, 2026, Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced that several men apprehended while trying to enter the country by sea confessed to being affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The state news agency KUNA reported that the detainees revealed they were directed to land on Bubiyan Island using a rented fishing boat to execute hostile operations against Kuwait.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Defence had reported the capture of four individuals attempting to infiltrate the country via the sea. The Interior Ministry elaborated that during the incident, the suspects exchanged gunfire with Kuwaiti armed forces, resulting in injuries to one serviceman. Additionally, two of the suspects managed to flee the scene.
Bubiyan Island, located in northeastern Kuwait, is situated near the border with Iraq, making it a strategic point for such infiltration attempts. The situation highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, particularly regarding potential threats from external entities.
