A video recorded by a Ukrainian seafarer aboard the CMA CGM San Antonio has emerged following an attack on the vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on May 5. The Maltese-flagged container ship was reportedly struck by missiles or drones during its transit, resulting in injuries to eight Filipino crew members. In response, the French shipping company CMA CGM, which owns the vessel, confirmed that the injured seafarers were evacuated and received necessary medical care.
The video, shared on a Ukrainian seafarer website, showcases the damaged areas of the ship, including the spots where the injured crew members were located during the attack. The seafarer narrates that “drones flew in and beat the hell out of us,” highlighting the chaos of the incident. Shipping YouTuber Sal Mercogliano featured this footage in a recent episode of his series, “What’s Going on With Shipping.”
Two versions of the video are available: one includes commentary from Mercogliano and AI-generated English subtitles, while the other is the original footage. This incident underscores the ongoing dangers faced by maritime crews in volatile regions.
