On Tuesday, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) formalized six strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing maritime decarbonization, cybersecurity, and talent development. These collaborations, announced during Singapore Maritime Week 2026, unite port operators, technology firms, academic institutions, and international partners to foster long-term maritime capabilities.
The partnerships focus on talent development, maritime cybersecurity, and decarbonization, ensuring that training and skill development align with real-world operational needs. Through its Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), SP has teamed up with MLA College, PSA Marine, and ST Engineering AirX to create robust maritime career pathways. Notably, SMA graduates will have access to BSc and MSc programs validated by the University of Plymouth, along with aligned curricula and potential government funding.
Additionally, SP and PSA Marine will collaborate on training courses and recruitment initiatives, while ST Engineering AirX will assist in developing specialized training for Wing-in-Ground Craft operations, merging maritime and aviation technologies. A Training Collaboration Agreement with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) will also lead to the launch of an Advanced Maritime Cybersecurity course, equipping seafarers with essential skills to combat cyber threats.
Lastly, SP will work with the Singapore Institute of Technology, Pyxis, and Sea Forrest to create an Electric Harbour Craft Continuing Education and Training course. An international partnership with VOC Port India will allow personnel to engage in SMA’s specialized training programs focused on LNG, methanol, and ammonia bunkering. According to Tan Yen Yen, Deputy Principal (Development) at SP, these partnerships are crucial for building a resilient ecosystem in the maritime sector, addressing challenges in cybersecurity, decarbonization, and talent development.
