Russian drones targeted two foreign-flagged vessels on Monday, marking the second such attack in four days in the Black Sea, as the war approaches its fourth anniversary. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba reported that one person was injured in the strikes, which involved ships registered in Panama and San Marino.
The Panamanian vessel was en route to collect vegetable oil, while the San Marino-flagged ship had just been loaded with corn. Kuleba emphasized that these incidents highlight Russia’s deliberate assaults on civilian ships, international trade, and maritime safety.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the attacks occurred near Chornomorsk port in the southern Odesa region, with one vessel reportedly bound for Italy. This area is vital for Ukraine’s foreign trade and the sustainability of its wartime economy.
These drone strikes further escalate tensions in the region and raise concerns about the safety of maritime operations in the Black Sea.
