The Politburo’s Resolution 20-NQ/TW signifies a pivotal change in Vietnam’s maritime strategy, emphasizing the sea as a cornerstone of national strength. This initiative aims to develop a robust maritime nation, aligning with Vietnam’s broader aspirations for growth and prosperity. The Vietnam Maritime Forum 2026, held on October 2 in Hanoi, focused on the theme of fostering Vietnam’s maritime capabilities through international collaboration and integration.
During the forum, organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, participants engaged in discussions on implementing the resolution, which seeks to transform the country’s marine potential into sustainable development resources. National Assembly Vice President Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Doan Anh highlighted the strategic importance of the sea, urging attendees to explore how international partnerships can enhance Vietnam’s role in a maritime environment characterized by peace and sustainable development.
Leaders from various ministries outlined priorities for realizing the resolution, emphasizing the need for international cooperation to yield tangible benefits in areas such as technology, infrastructure, and environmental protection. They identified innovation and digital transformation as essential drivers for sustainable maritime prosperity, while also promoting the development of coastal tourism clusters as growth opportunities.
Participants stressed that development must prioritize people, balancing marine economic growth with national security. UN representatives expressed support for Vietnam’s action plan, emphasizing the importance of complying with international maritime agreements and ensuring that benefits reach local communities, including fishers and youth. The forum’s thematic sessions aimed to mobilize resources and strengthen cooperation, with proposals expected to advance the implementation of the resolution.
