Indonesia is ramping up efforts to secure the release of four citizens among the 16 crew members of the tanker MT Honour 25, which was seized by Somali pirates on April 22 near Hafun in Puntland, northeastern Somalia. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry announced that it is actively coordinating with various stakeholders, both domestically and internationally, to address the situation.
Ongoing negotiations are taking place between local authorities in Somalia, crew management, and other involved parties. The ministry expressed optimism that these discussions could lead to a resolution in the near future.
The MT Honour 25, which was transporting petroleum products, had a diverse crew consisting of four Indonesians, ten Pakistanis, and one each from India and Myanmar. Reports indicate that all Indonesian crew members are in good health, have adequate supplies, and continue to receive their salaries.
Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry, along with the Transport Ministry and other relevant agencies, has been in contact with the families of the crew members, assuring them that the government is committed to safeguarding the welfare of Indonesian citizens abroad.
