A temporary vessel strike initially set for April 12-15 was canceled by the union on April 8. However, harbor employees are still scheduled to strike from May 26-28, having postponed their original strike date of April 13.
Efforts to prevent these strikes are ongoing, with negotiations between Eimskip, the union, and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise, facilitated by the State Conciliation and Mediation Officer. Eimskip has stated that new proposals have been put forward and remains optimistic about reaching a resolution.
The company warned that the vessel strike would disrupt sailing schedules. Additionally, the harbor strike is expected to decrease operational capacity at Sundahöfn, where approximately 40% of employees are union members.
In response to these potential disruptions, Eimskip emphasizes that its personnel are actively seeking ways to minimize the overall impact on customers, reflecting their commitment to maintaining service continuity despite ongoing labor challenges.
