The Myanmar Seafarers Federation (MSF) has pledged to support Myanmar maritime workers who are stranded on international ships and unable to return home for various reasons. If seafarers find themselves detained or in need of medical assistance while serving on ships, their families can reach out to the MSF for help. The MSF Vice-President U Hote Saum emphasized the importance of providing detailed information about the seafarer’s situation, including the reason for detention, location, and any responses from local representatives.
Families of Myanmar seafarers facing challenges in returning home are urged to provide essential details to the MSF, such as the seafarer’s name, CDC number, passport number, ship information, and contact information for local representatives and shipowners. Currently, there are no seafarers detained for various reasons, but the MSF is prepared to assist those encountering difficulties, particularly due to work-related injuries. With over 100,000 registered international seafarers in Myanmar, approximately 50,000 are actively working on ships.
The MSF’s commitment to aiding stranded seafarers reflects their dedication to supporting the welfare and rights of Myanmar maritime workers. By facilitating communication and assistance for those facing challenges while serving on international ships, the MSF aims to ensure the well-being and safety of seafarers, emphasizing the importance of adherence to laws and regulations in providing necessary support.
