TAFE Queensland is inviting community members to contribute to the future of maritime training by naming its newest training vessel, an 8-meter rigid inflatable boat. This vessel will be instrumental in providing practical, hands-on training for students enrolled in maritime courses throughout South East Queensland, ultimately aiding in the development of skilled marine professionals.
Robert Petherbridge, General Manager of TAFE Queensland’s Gold Coast region, emphasized that the new vessel will enhance training capabilities and support the growth of Queensland’s marine sector. He noted that as the marine industry expands, particularly on the Gold Coast, the demand for a qualified workforce also increases. The training vessel will equip students with essential practical experience, boosting their confidence as they pursue careers in maritime professions.
The BRIG Eagle 8 is set to begin operations in September and will facilitate various maritime courses, including the Certificate II in Maritime Operations, which prepares students for roles as coxswains on commercial vessels up to 12 meters long. The naming competition closes at 11:59 PM on Sunday, August 16, with three winners receiving a whale-watching experience with Sea World Cruises.
