Since the collapse of the Key Bridge over 60 days ago, the 21-member crew of the Dali cargo ship has been stuck onboard with no clear timeline for leaving, leading to concern worldwide. The ship has been stationed at Seagirt for a week after spending eight weeks in the Patapsco River. Crew members are without personal phones but have been able to reconnect with their families, bringing some relief to their mental health.
Efforts to secure shore leave for the crew are underway, though it is a complex process with bureaucratic hurdles. The Singapore Maritime Officers Union has been involved in supporting the crew and addressing concerns about criminal liability and the confiscated phones. Despite not asking about the disaster, members of the crew have been grateful for the outpouring of support they have received.
The ship is expected to remain at Seagirt for another month before heading to Norfolk for repairs. In response to the collapse, Baltimore County plans to partner with specialized law firms to pursue legal claims against those responsible. Federal investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the County taking steps to address the losses suffered by residents, businesses, and other impacted parties.
