Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority announced the issuance of eight new licenses for liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, effective September 1, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance the country’s LNG bunkering capacity in response to increasing demand and to establish a multi-fuel bunkering hub.
The licenses have been granted to notable companies including Aramco Trading Singapore, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, and Shell Eastern Trading, among others. Each license will be valid for five years, requiring companies to provide essential LNG bunkering services such as fuel supply, storage, and delivery to vessels.
This latest round of licenses follows a call for applications made in January 2023. Previously, Singapore had only three LNG bunker suppliers: FuelLNG, Pavilion Gas, and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels.
In the first half of 2026, LNG bunker sales in Singapore reached 318,300 tons, reflecting a 30% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth underscores the rising significance of LNG in the maritime fuel market.
