A QatarEnergy-controlled liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, the Al Areesh, recently exited the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first recorded departure since July 11 amid ongoing tensions in the region. The tanker loaded its cargo at Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal between July 4 and 6 and sailed from the strait on July 29. Current data indicates it is headed to Port Qasim in Pakistan, with an estimated arrival on July 31.
Iran’s Fars news agency reported that a Qatari LNG vessel navigated the Iran-designated route in the Strait of Hormuz with permission from Iran, though no specific details about the tanker were provided. Prior to the Al Areesh, the last LNG tanker to leave the strait was the Al Hamra on July 11.
In related developments, the Mraweh LNG tanker reappeared inside the strait after being detected in ballast on July 24. Meanwhile, twelve commodity ships transited the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, indicating a slight increase in maritime activity. Additionally, the Bab el-Mandeb strait saw 19 commodity ships pass through, down from earlier days, highlighting fluctuating maritime traffic amid regional tensions.
