DP World GCC’s CEO and Managing Director, Abdulla Bin Damithan, highlighted the importance of increasing vessel handling capacity to attract more international shipbuilding and repair companies. This enhanced infrastructure is expected to stimulate growth in the maritime sector and solidify Dubai’s reputation as a top destination for maritime excellence.
Dubai Maritime City, spanning 249 hectares, has already docked 296 vessels this year, showing a 16% increase in dry berth occupancy compared to 2023. To further boost its capabilities, DMC recently signed an EPC deal for four sets of ship cradles, with the first two sets already inaugurated. These cradles can accommodate vessels weighing up to 6,000 tonnes and measuring 140 meters long, increasing the docking capacity by an additional 100 vessels annually.
In addition to the infrastructure upgrades, Dubai Maritime City is expanding its mixed-use elements, including hosting signature residential projects. The continuous development and improvements in facilities aim to position the city as a hub for maritime activities and a preferred destination for maritime businesses worldwide.
