Paradip Port Authority has made a significant advancement by successfully berthing the MV Mineral Kwangyang, a Capesize vessel with a draft of 16.5 meters, at Western Dock-1. The 292-meter ship, which arrived from Hay Point, Australia, carrying 152,702 MT of coking coal, showcases the port’s enhanced capability in handling larger vessels.
The vessel docked on September 5 at 6 AM, highlighting Paradip’s increasing capacity to accommodate high-volume bulk carriers. This achievement is anticipated to enhance cargo-handling efficiency and minimize vessel turnaround time for major industrial players. The successful operation was a joint effort between Paradip Port Authority and Jindal Paradip Port Ltd., with officials celebrating the milestone.
Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit extended his congratulations to the teams involved in this landmark event. This achievement follows the inauguration of seven key infrastructure projects worth Rs 427.80 crore by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, emphasizing the port’s capability expansion to an 18.5-meter deep draft. These projects are designed to bolster Paradip’s efficiency and cargo handling, facilitating economic growth in the eastern region by strengthening its role as a vital maritime gateway.
