Port Marlborough and Marlborough Sounds Marinas have achieved the International Clean Marina certification for three of their sites. The accreditation was received by Marina operator Marlborough Sounds Marinas (MSM), a part of Port Marlborough’s operation, from the Marina Industries Association and the International Council of Marine Industry Associations. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for New Zealand, as MSM becomes the first marina operation in the country to receive the accreditation, with all three MSM marinas at Picton, Waikawa, and Havelock being recognized.
The International Clean Marina Program aims to elevate environmental practices in marina operations by reducing pollution associated with boating and promoting clean water, clean air, and successful marina businesses. The certification process includes rigorous criteria covering environmental operating procedures, emergency procedures, asset maintenance, and customer awareness and education. Anouk Euzeby, manager of MSM, expressed pride in the team’s efforts to improve environmental protection and excellence in marina management through meticulous preparation for the certification audit.
Port Marlborough CEO Rhys Welbourn highlighted the organization’s commitment to environmental restoration and leadership in the marina industry. The achievement of the International Clean Marina certification by the marinas team reflects their dedication to environmental excellence. Located in the Marlborough Sounds region on the northern coastline of New Zealand’s South Island, all three MSM marinas showcase a commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
