Former Student Pledges $1.5 Million to Boost Indian Maritime University’s funds

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) has achieved significant milestones through strategic partnerships. An MoU with RK Mehrotra Holding Pvt. Ltd. will bring a $1.5 million investment for an Endowment Portfolio and a $0.72 million Centre of Excellence in Maritime. Another MoA with IME(i) will sponsor two JRFs with ₹18 lakhs to enhance research in the maritime sector.

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) recently achieved significant milestones through strategic partnerships and collaborations. The first major highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RK Mehrotra Holding Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Foresight Group. The Group, founded by Dr. R K Mehrotra, is set to invest USD1.5 Million towards Endowment Portfolio and USD 0.72 Million to establish the building of Dr. R K Mehrotra Centre of Excellence in Maritime at the Kolkata Campus of the University. This Centre will focus on developing capabilities in emerging technologies in the maritime sector, research studies, and innovation.

Another highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Institute of Marine Engineers, India (IME(i)), establishing a sponsorship of ₹18 lakhs to two Junior Research Fellows (JRF) at IMU. This sponsorship aims to enhance research interest in the maritime sector and provide opportunities for JRFs to pursue doctoral studies with the University. The collaboration between IME(i) and IMU will lead to industry-relevant research projects and advancements in the maritime field.

Dr. Malini V Shankar, Vice Chancellor of IMU, expressed her enthusiasm about these partnerships and collaborations, emphasizing the University’s vision to drive educational and research outcomes in the maritime ecosystem. She highlighted the alignment of IMU’s efforts with the Maritime India Vision of 2030 and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision of 2047. The collaborations with RKMHL group and IME(i) are expected to create a network of young researchers and foster innovation in the maritime sector, contributing to the advancement of maritime education and research.
