Coratia Technologies Wins ₹66 Crore UWROV Supply Agreement

Coratia Technologies, an Odisha-based startup, has secured a significant contract worth Rs 66 crore (approximately $7.5 million) with the Indian Navy, marking a pivotal move toward India’s defense self-reliance. The agreement, witnessed by high-ranking Navy officials, will see Coratia supply and maintain its indigenously developed Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs), which include advanced models like Jalasimha, Jaladuta, and Navya.

This contract signifies the first large-scale deployment of domestically produced UWROVs in active naval operations, enhancing the Navy’s capabilities with AI and machine learning-powered technology. The initiative emphasizes reducing reliance on imported tech during a time of geopolitical uncertainty, reinforcing India’s ‘Make in India’ vision.

Coratia recently raised Rs 17.4 crore (approximately $2 million) in a Pre-Series A funding round to expand its research and development and boost exports, anticipating growth in the underwater robotics market. Their UWROVs are already in service with major clients, including SAIL and Indian Oil, and serve various applications from dam inspections to marine ecosystem monitoring.

Debendra Pradhan, Co-Founder and CEO, highlighted the project as a testament to India’s burgeoning innovation ecosystem, while Co-founder Biswajit Swain noted that it enhances defense preparedness and supports India’s blue economy.
