India and Iran Strengthen Ties Through Chabahar

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the 8th Conference of the Indian Ocean in Muscat. During the meeting, Araghchi highlighted the success of the 19th Round of political consultations between Iran and India in New Delhi, stressing the importance of continuing close consultations and discussions between the two countries.

Araghchi emphasized Iran’s good neighborly relations and the significance of expanding relationships with regional countries, especially those in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean literal states. He expressed optimism that the meeting organized by India and Oman would achieve its goals of developing partnerships and cooperation among Indian Ocean countries.

The Indian Foreign Minister expressed hope that the Muscat meeting would enhance relationships between regional countries, including Iran and India. They discussed opportunities to strengthen mutual ties in political, cultural, economic, and commercial areas, as well as regional and international issues like the situation in Afghanistan.

In May, Iran and India signed a 10-year contract for the operation and equipment of the Southern Iranian port city of Chabahar to boost bilateral trade and economic relations. This agreement includes significant investments in the transport infrastructure of Chabahar, aiming to strengthen the strategic partnership between Iran and India through the port, which is considered a crucial maritime gateway in South Asia.
