Orca AI has strengthened its partnership with Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) after a successful pilot program involving five vessels that covered over 130,000 nautical miles. Following this pilot, EPS will implement Orca AI’s maritime operations platform across numerous additional vessels, reflecting enhancing navigational awareness and decision-making abilities in real-world settings.
The pilot demonstrated significant advancements in navigational safety, marking a notable shift in the maritime industry where operators transition from technology evaluations to broader deployments. The data indicated a 48% reduction in close encounter events per 1,000 nautical miles, while average minimum passing distance increased by 10%. Notably, the vessel Pacific Sentinel saw an 84% reduction in open-water close encounters and a 50% increase in minimum passing distance within six months of using Orca AI’s system.
Orca AI’s platform merges onboard situational awareness with shore-based analytics. SeaPod, installed on vessels, employs computer vision to identify surrounding ships and objects, enhancing awareness in congested and low-visibility conditions. Additionally, FleetView provides shoreside teams with insights to improve operational review and data-driven training.
EPS Technical Director Sachin Saharawat emphasized the company’s commitment to equipping bridge teams with technologies that enhance decision-making. Yarden Gross, CEO of Orca AI, praised EPS’s analytical approach, highlighting how AI-driven situational awareness fosters better seamanship and reduces risks, improving safety on both the bridge and shore.
