The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has introduced new regulations for advertising in coastal areas and properties it oversees, as reported by TOI. These rules, part of the Regulation of Display of Advertisements Regulations, 2026, also encompass provisions for leasing land and stalls on MMB properties. The updated framework broadens the range of allowable advertising formats, including hoardings on MMB land, displays on vessels and barges, and even advertisements on hot air balloons.
Under the new guidelines, advertisements on vessels can be installed as single- or double-sided boards or wraps, ensuring visibility while in motion. Digital displays, which are electronically operated systems, are also permitted. Additionally, the policy allows for standees and advertisements on parked vehicles, subject to specified conditions. Nitesh Rane, Maharashtra’s ports and fisheries minister, emphasized that these regulations fill a gap in advertising policy for MMB-managed areas, aiming to generate revenue through a transparent and structured system.
The MMB plans to designate specific locations and types of advertisements allowed in each area. Advertising rights will be awarded through a bidding process, with the minimum license fee based on existing schedules. Bidders must quote a premium above the base fee, streamlining advertising activities and standardizing approvals and revenue collection across MMB properties.
