The Maharashtra Maritime Board has greenlit several initiatives aimed at enhancing water transport, port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and coastal tourism throughout the state. These decisions were made during a Board of Directors meeting led by Ports Minister Nitesh Rane on August 12. The board emphasized the importance of a transparent and competitive tender process for the Mumbai Water Metro project, with Rane instructing officials to adhere strictly to established protocols.
Among the approved projects is a greenfield shipbuilding cluster in Dighi, Raigad district, with tenders due by August 20. This initiative aims to bolster infrastructure for shipbuilding companies, attract investments, and create job opportunities. In Ratnagiri, the board sanctioned connectivity works and land acquisition necessary for the Goa Shipyard project at Satkondi, urging prompt completion of administrative tasks.
The board also focused on passenger and tourism infrastructure, approving repair and enhancement works at Mandwa Passenger Jetty in Raigad to ensure safety and quality amid increasing passenger traffic. Additionally, maintenance and improvements were authorized for Bandra Bandstand, including parks and public amenities, to elevate this coastal tourism hotspot. Rane urged officials to explore new revenue streams by optimizing the use of board-owned land and facilities.
