A new Lighthouse Museum is set to rise in Gujarat, providing a unique experience where visitors can enjoy coffee from the height of a 17-storey building while overlooking the remnants of one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Located in Lothal, approximately 75 km from Ahmedabad, the museum will be part of the expansive National Maritime Heritage Complex, which spans 400 acres. The museum, standing at 77 meters, will be the largest of its kind globally, featuring a café situated 54 meters above ground.
The development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex is planned in three phases, with the Lighthouse Museum included in Phase 1B. The design, created by renowned architect Hafeez Contractor, aims to offer an immersive experience through exhibition galleries, a viewing deck, and interactive spaces. The concept is rooted in the “Torch of Knowledge,” symbolizing the preservation of Lothal’s rich maritime history and culture.
Once completed, the Lighthouse Museum is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, showcasing Lothal’s historical significance as one of the world’s earliest dockyards. The project aims to blend ancient heritage with modern architecture, establishing Lothal as a premier destination for maritime and cultural tourism in India.
