The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, particularly following incidents involving two ships carrying Indian seafarers. The ministry expressed deep concern over the ongoing assaults on maritime shipping in the region, highlighting the potential for further escalation of an already tense situation.
On October 11, 2026, the MT PETRO DOLPHIN was reportedly targeted by a drone, resulting in two Indian crew members being reported missing. Meanwhile, the MT VALTHERA, a tanker flagged by the Marshall Islands, was hit by an unidentified projectile, igniting a fire onboard. Fortunately, all eleven Indian seafarers aboard the MT VALTHERA were reported safe. The Indian Embassy in Muscat is actively coordinating with Omani authorities and ship management to assist in the rescue of the missing crew members.
The Ministry reiterated the importance of resolving the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran through dialogue and diplomacy. It emphasized the necessity of ensuring safe navigation and the uninterrupted flow of maritime commerce in accordance with international law. The situation is particularly alarming as Indian nationals have faced increased risks in the Middle East, with recent attacks causing injuries and fatalities among Indian citizens.
