The Integrated Transport Centre and Abu Dhabi Maritime have introduced a new tool called MARSDNA to support stakeholders in the maritime sector in achieving their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. Developed by Maqta Technologies Group, MARSDNA allows businesses and organizations to measure their ESG progress through a questionnaire that grades their standing on national and global ESG metrics. By consolidating data from various ESG standards, including those from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the International Maritime Organization, MARSDNA aims to simplify ESG tracking for industry stakeholders.

In its initial rollout phase, MARSDNA focuses on five key segments within the maritime sector value chain: shipping companies, ports and terminal operators, freight forwarders and cargo beneficiaries, marine and offshore services, and marina operators. Future phases are expected to expand the tool’s scope to cover the entire sector. Noura Al Dhaheri, CEO of Maqta Technologies Group and Digital Cluster at AD Ports Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable development through digital solutions like MARSDNA, which can help users conceptualize and achieve environmental objectives.

In 2024, AD Ports Group made significant strides towards its business and environmental goals. In December, the company, in partnership with French shipping giant CMA CGM, launched an environmentally conscious container terminal at Khalifa Port. This terminal, operating under a 35-year concession by a joint venture between the two companies, is now equipped for rail connectivity and is expected to boost Khalifa Port’s status as a major regional gateway. With an increased annual container capacity of 23% to nearly 10 million TEUs, the new terminal represents a significant advancement for AD Ports Group.
