Filipino Seafarers Safely Rescued After Nigeria Vessel Collision

All 14 Filipino crew members aboard the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Maersk Valparaiso are reported safe after a collision with the oil tanker Lady Martina in Nigeria’s Onne Bonny River on May 20, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The DMW confirmed the crew’s safety in a recent Facebook update.

In response to the incident, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has activated emergency protocols, collaborating with maritime pilots and relevant authorities. The DMW is actively monitoring the situation, keeping track of the welfare of the Filipino seafarers and any developments regarding the vessel.

This maritime collision is the second incident involving ships with Filipino crew members in just two days. In light of these events, the DMW has issued a strong reminder to maritime stakeholders about the importance of prioritizing the safety and security of vessels employing Filipino seafarers.
