Norwegian boatbuilder GOT Marine has delivered a new all-aluminium search and rescue (SAR) vessel to the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet, RS). Designated as RS178, this latest addition is the largest vessel in the RS fleet, measuring 32 meters (100 feet) in length and equipped with compartments for rescued survivors and firefighting equipment.
The RS178 is designed to meet a demanding operational profile, allowing for versatile use in various scenarios. It can efficiently transition between roles including search and rescue missions, patient transport, towing, firefighting, and diving operations, all while ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and reliability.
Key features onboard include a dedicated treatment room, a diving room, and a diving platform, as well as deck space that accommodates a small fast rescue boat, complete with a davit for ease of launch. Additionally, in cases of larger, more intricate incidents, the vessel is capable of functioning as an operational command center, enhancing its multi-role capabilities and effectiveness in critical situations.
