Shell Partners with Hydra Subsea for Deepwater Pipeline Projects

HYDRA SUBSEA, Shell To Install Pipelines On Subsea

HYDRA SUBSEA has secured a commercial agreement with Shell Offshore Inc. to provide a standardized deepwater pipeline installation solution for specific short-distance subsea tie-ins in the Gulf of America. The initial project under this agreement is the Appomattox gas lift line, which is contingent upon obtaining project-specific approvals. Located 80 miles off Louisiana’s coast, Appomattox is primarily operated by Shell, which holds a 79% stake, while INEOS owns the remaining 21%.

As part of its preparations, HYDRA is actively working on reactivating the vessel Subsea Legend. This reactivation will include the installation of new mission equipment, such as a 250-ton active heave-compensated subsea crane, an upgraded propulsion system, and an enhanced dynamic positioning system.

The HYDRA Standard Solution is designed to streamline project execution through repeatable engineering and standardized configurations, along with dedicated regional installation capabilities. This approach aims to minimize complexity and enhance cost and schedule predictability for applicable projects, particularly those in the Gulf region.

The agreement outlines the commercial and technical framework for both companies to explore qualifying opportunities, with each project subject to individual evaluation, approval, and award processes.
