Lloyd’s Register (LR) is introducing the Future Navigators Schools Programme pilot in Lagos, Nigeria, designed to inspire youth to consider careers in maritime and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This initiative includes interactive workshops and a tailored mobile game, targeting over 270 students aged 14 to 16 across three local schools. The program integrates hands-on learning with digital tools to make maritime and STEM subjects more engaging and relatable for young learners.

The workshops aim to familiarize students with career opportunities in the maritime sector while addressing sustainability challenges and the future of the industry. A specially created mobile game enhances the experience, allowing participants to tackle real-world maritime themes and sustainability issues in a format that resonates with tech-savvy youth.

This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between education and the maritime industry, enhancing awareness of career pathways and supporting the development of future professionals. It also aligns with LR’s broader social impact goals, specifically in promoting awareness and access to maritime opportunities for young girls.

After the pilot phase, LR plans to evaluate the program’s effectiveness and will explore ways to expand its reach. Future steps include developing an online digital learning platform accessible to schools, further enhancing educational opportunities in the maritime sector.
