The Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) hosted the 3rd IALA Council Meeting in Mumbai from December 8–12, 2025, with over 60 delegates from 30 countries. In its 197th meeting, the Inland Waterways Authority of India approved a comprehensive plan to enhance the inland water transport sector, notably for National Waterway-2. Key initiatives include developing terminal infrastructure, navigation aids, and a skill development center, alongside improving vessel operations and establishing a link road to Pandu Terminal in Assam.

Their meeting focused on enhancing maritime cooperation, showcasing techniques from the JCG’s Mobile Cooperation Team, and reinforcing commitments to safety and security in the region through shared knowledge.
The IMO’s upcoming meeting in London will be crucial in deciding on a GHG pricing mechanism for the shipping industry. The 6PAC+ alliance is advocating for a universal GHG levy to drive decarbonization efforts and ensure a just transition. Support for the levy is growing, but political divisions remain on key issues.
