MacGregor, a part of Cargotec, has introduced a new digital Carbon Calculator aimed at assisting container shipping companies in estimating the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions that can be achieved by upgrading their onboard container cargo system with MacGregor Cargo Boost. The Cargo Boost solution is designed to maximize container-carrying capacity on existing ships, increasing cargo system utilization from the typical 80% to 90% or even 100%. This enhancement can effectively boost capacity by the equivalent of an additional ship across a 10-vessel fleet.
The MacGregor Carbon Calculator is a free tool that provides owners with a straightforward way to assess the emissions-reducing potential of implementing Cargo Boost. Users can input details about their vessel, existing container cargo system, changes with Cargo Boost, and operational voyage specifics into the calculator. The tool offers full transparency by estimating the impact of the upgrade in terms of CO2 reduction per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), savings in Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) payments, fuel costs in US dollars per TEU, and additional revenue in USD.
This innovative calculator is designed to help container shipping companies make informed decisions about upgrading their container cargo systems to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. By utilizing the MacGregor Carbon Calculator, owners can gain valuable insights into the environmental and financial benefits of implementing Cargo Boost on their vessels.
