Horizon Gangway Launched for Safe Personnel Transfers Between Moving Vessels

MacGregor has enhanced its offshore technology offerings with a certified floating-to-floating personnel transfer capability for its Horizon gangway and a new bow transfer system for direct ship-to-well LCO2 transfer. The Horizon gangway, now DNV-certified under DNV-ST-0358, allows for motion-compensated connections between two independently moving vessels, facilitating personnel transfers at sea without needing a fixed landing point. This innovation is suitable for applications such as FPSOs, floating rigs, and offshore service fleets, enabling crew changes and service operations away from port schedules.

The system features a specialized flap at the gangway tip, replacing conventional docking heads, and employs LiDAR-based tracking for real-time motion compensation. Additionally, MacGregor has introduced a Liquid Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) Bow Transfer System (BTS) designed for seamless ship-to-well transfers, potentially eliminating the need for onshore storage facilities. This system builds on MacGregor’s established Bow Loading System technology, with 79% of its components derived from proven designs.

The BTS is engineered to withstand extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -57°C and wave heights of up to six meters. MacGregor is also participating in the EU-funded COREu consortium, working towards technology qualification with DNV, with prototype testing expected by mid-2027.
