India is conducting a comprehensive review of its ports nationwide to address operational deficiencies and infrastructure needs. The goal is to enhance capacity, accommodate larger ships, and implement green energy solutions. This evaluation covers major ports and is part of the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The government aims to establish benchmark standards, improve infrastructure, rank ports, and set common minimum standards.
The review will focus on optimizing cargo handling, reducing ship turnaround time, and exploring green infrastructure projects such as Green Hydrogen storage and renewable energy generation. Ports like Visakhapatnam and New Mangalore already meet their energy needs through renewables, while others like Paradip and Chennai are working towards that goal. The evaluation will also examine futuristic technologies like methanol and battery-powered ships to promote innovation and efficiency.
The upcoming 14th RAHSTA Expo, a part of the India Construction Festival, is scheduled for October 9 and 10, 2024, at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai. This event provides a platform for sharing best practices and innovations in the maritime industry. By collaborating and adopting new technologies, India’s ports can strive for all-round improvement and sustainability.
