Brim Explorer, a leading maritime tourism operator in Europe, chose Survitec’s Small Inflatable Slide (SIS) MES due to its lightweight design and compact size, which allows for effective servicing across Norway. The company aims to operate ten fully electric vessels by 2030, making energy efficiency and passenger capacity critical in their design decisions.
Survitec’s engineers collaborated with Brim Explorer to optimize installation locations, creatively suspending liferaft canisters to save valuable deck space. This innovative approach enhances design flexibility while maintaining safety standards. Additionally, the partnership has introduced an equipment exchange program, significantly reducing MES servicing time from days to hours, thereby extending vessel operational periods during peak seasons.
The study underscores the importance of collaboration among shipowners, designers, and safety equipment manufacturers in the early stages of vessel development, particularly for electric and hybrid fleets, to achieve improved efficiency without compromising safety.
