HX Expeditions, the pioneering expedition cruise company, has launched the long-awaited 1896 Cabin aboard the MS Fridtjof Nansen. This limited-edition cabin celebrates HX’s 130th anniversary, allowing guests to experience the ambiance of a late-19th-century expedition vessel. It pays homage to the summer of 1896, when the DS Lofoten embarked on the first-ever expedition cruise to Svalbard, embodying the spirit of exploration that HX continues to champion.

Despite facing significant construction setbacks earlier this year, which resulted in the loss of essential materials, the cabin has been reimagined and completed with remarkable craftsmanship. Gebhard Rainer, CEO of HX Expeditions, emphasized that the cabin not only honors the company’s origins but also reflects the extraordinary efforts of their teams and partners. He noted that the 1896 Cabin has exceeded initial expectations, offering a unique experience that brings history to life.

Designed by AROS Marine, the cabin features over 20 distinct furniture pieces and handcrafted wooden interiors that evoke the charm of late-19th-century exploration. Key elements include reclaimed wood, period-inspired décor, and even a custom scent designed to enhance the immersive experience. The cabin is available for booking on select voyages, with profits supporting conservation and heritage initiatives through the HX Foundation.
