The River Navigation Department (RND) has recently launched two roll-on/roll-off ferries into the Zuari River for test runs. These vessels aim to enhance connectivity between river routes and road traffic. Currently, the ships are undergoing final technical adjustments before their official deployment.
RND officials stated that testing will continue next week to ensure the ferries are fully operational. Director Vikram Rajebhosale mentioned that an engineer from Singapore will oversee the gear settings for the first ship, while the second ship is addressing issues related to its display systems and engine programming.
The construction of the ferries has faced delays, with the completion date pushed from May 1 to May 15 due to various setbacks. Final safety installations and painting of the vessels have been completed. The ferries were launched from Loutolim Spandard, and the focus is now on engine alignment and propeller shaft adjustments, which were finalized last week.
The initial test runs of these Roro ferries on the Zuari River mark a significant step forward for regional maritime connectivity, according to updates from Maritime Gateway, a leading news portal in South Asia.
