GPPL Secures ₹17,000 Crore Investment MoU, Shares Jump 5%

Shares of Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL) surged over 5% during morning trading on Wednesday after the company revealed it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Maritime Board for future investments totaling ₹17,000 crore. This initiative marks a significant step for India’s first private sector port, although the investment is contingent upon GPPL securing a long-term extension of its current concession, which is set to expire in September 2028.

The MoU outlines plans for a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade aimed at increasing capacity in various segments, including containers, liquid cargo, and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) operations. Additionally, the proposal includes expanding storage facilities and enhancing rail siding capacity. GPPL also intends to introduce specialized equipment, deepen waterfront access, and improve multimodal connectivity across sea, rail, and road networks to better serve the Northwest region of India.

Moreover, the company is looking to form strategic partnerships as part of its expansion strategy. Recently, GPPL received a contract from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to provide port and storage facilities at Pipavav Port, supporting ONGC’s offshore supply base development.

Following the announcement, GPPL’s stock reached an intraday high of ₹166.90 on the BSE, trading 4.2% higher at ₹165.55 by 12:30 pm. Over the past month, the stock has risen nearly 4%, with a more substantial gain of over 34% in the last six months, although it remains down about 9% for the year 2025.
