Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met Denmark’s Minister Morten Bodskov to strengthen maritime cooperation, culminating in a bilateral agreement to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Green Shipping in India. This initiative reaffirms the Green Strategic Partnership between the nations, aiming to enhance the efficiency of maritime activities while promoting a sustainable maritime sector in India.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 marks a significant milestone in India-Denmark relations, aligning with the Government of India’s Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The MoU emphasizes cooperation in various maritime domains, such as green shipping, decarbonization, and maritime training.
Additionally, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between the National Maritime Heritage Complex and the Maritime Museum of Denmark to collaborate on maritime cultural heritage preservation. Discussions also focused on joint efforts in certifications and energy-efficient technologies, with collaboration proposals from the Indian Ports Association to develop smart port solutions in partnership with Aarhus Port.
The CoE will help formulate a Green Corridor project plan, assessing components necessary for promoting sustainable shipping in India. This co-operation aims to set the foundation for future innovations in the maritime industry.
